A former Hanseatic League city, with its city center a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. One can spend a good part of the day, sightseeing around the city – from open air musical concerts featuring local and international talent, to taking a funicular ride up a mountain, there is enough acivity to keep one occupied. For the evening, check out Egon – a cozy restaurant, with the look and feel of a medieval tavern, with stone walls. But the real fun in Bergen is taking the scenic railway to Flam, watching waterfalls on the way, and taking a boat ride along the fjords. In summer time, the verdant greenery mingling with the blue of the ocean makes a delightful sight. I’d also recommend a cycling tour, that’s mostly downhill, a very easy slope and little effort needed, but which offers amazingly scenic view, all along the way. Yes, and one final thing – do buy small trolls as souvenirs. They make a great story to tell and will look good on your mantelpiece.
